Are you interested in a DIY electric surfboard? You should have a look at the electric hydrofoil project at Kickstarter.
The team around Chris Vermeulen from Canada is developing an electric propulsion system, which can be mounted to Hydrofoils, Surfboards and SUP’s.
The first prototypes of the electric Hydrofoil are ready and the Kickstarter campaign shall now help to bring the DIY electric surfboard project to the next level. The team is seeking for better motors and batteries as well as a wireless remote control.
The current motor makes up to 7,000 rpm (revolutions / rotations per minute). That’s 177 per second. The next prototype is supposed to be 30% lighter and smaller.
You will find a video about the first prototype in our video section.
The goal is to offer the electric conversion kit even cheaper than if you would buy the different components on your own. This sounds interesting and this is why we were an early supporter of the DIY electric surfboard project.
According to our own statistics from the E-Surfer Website, we know that many people are interested in an electric hydrofoil. Our earlier eFoil article is the most visited page after the electric surfboard comparison.
The team (Chris, Ian & Petro) are active windsurfers and kitesurfers and love water-sports . The Electric Hydrofoil project is their next big thing.
We will continue to have a close look at this DIY electric surfboard and are looking forward to the moment when we can have a first look and test ride on the motorised hydrofoil.
We are pretty sure we will buy one once it it available.
