Recently there were some interesting Jetboard tuning tips in interviews, the E-Surfer forum and the Electric Surfboard Users Facebook group about how to make the Onean Carver faster.
Some electric surfboards are not powerful enough for riders above 80 kg, but we learned that especially the Onean Carver has the potential to get some more km/h out the jetboard with the right tuning.

Of course you could just buy an Onean Carver X and you will have enough power without any handmade modifications, but if you own already a Carver, but just need a little bit more speed you can help yourself with the following tips.
It looks like the most important tools for jetboard tuning are:
1. Reduce the resistance of the board
2. Use different fins
3. Put your weight to the front of the board
4. Use a paddle
5. Pump technique

1. Reduce the resistance of the board
The easiest and most efficient technique to get some more speed out of your board is to reduce the resistance.
The first step here is to polish the bottom of your board. Some users report this will bring up to 5 - 10 km/h additional speed.

Try to find what can create turbulences in the water and eliminate these spots where you can to make the Onean carver faster.
“Gerd Surf" for example modified the intake system to reduce resistance.

2. Use different fins
Another effective way to make the Onean Carver faster is to use different fins. Shorter Carbon fins seem to be effective.
Others are even experimenting with fins which have small foils (see a picture further below). It depends on your weight and riding style which fins work best for you.

3. Put you weight to the front of the board
When you start riding the Onean Caver put your front foot almost to the top of the board. Like you need to do with an electric hydrofoil. This will make sure the back of your board will not go below the surface which would slow you down.
Combine this with the pump technique below.
Once you reach planning your can move more backwards on the board.
4. Make the Onean Carver faster: Use a paddle

In Mike’s recent video interview with Onean CEO Inigo Sobradillo, Inigo himself shared some of the tips above.
And he is the one who introduced the help of a paddle for tighter turns and accelerating the board by releasing weight to the paddle. You can even paddle to reach planning. Check out the video:

5. Pump technique
By pushing the board up and down you create your own small wave.
This will not only help to do your first jumps, but reduces also the contact to the water surface. Even if only for part of a second this is helping to gain speed for planning.
These technique is already known from windsurfers.
If you use foot straps the pumping technique is even more efficient and you can also do jumps.

In our Facebook group Electric surfboard Users “Gerd Surf” “John Bolton” and others shared a lot of pictures how they got their Carvers faster. Visit the group at: facebook.com/groups/jetboard
A very detailed report from “CarverRider” can be found in our forum at forum.e-surfer.com/t/accelerate-onean-carver-ride-for-heavy-riders
He was testing different fins and published the results.
As you can see there are good chances you can make the Onean Carver faster by using the right jetboard tuning tips.
