eFoil lessons

Where can I take an eFoil lesson with E-SURFER?

You can learn to eFoil with E-SURFER and our partners in four countries: in Germany at three spots in Berlin (Lake Wannsee, Lake Müggelsee and our Funkhaus showroom), in Italy on Lake Garda, in Spain in Barcelona and Sotogrande, and in Greece in Porto Heli. Lessons are available from age 16; prices range from €199 to €299, and some partners quote on request.

eFoiling is easier than you might think: many students are flying over the water after 30 minutes or less. Your instructor stays with you on the water the whole time.

In Berlin, Lake Wannsee and Lake Müggelsee are for anyone who wants to try eFoiling; the lesson at Funkhaus is for those thinking about buying an eFoil, with several brands to test. Our partners in Italy, Spain and Greece mostly teach on Aerofoils eFoils with jet drive.

How much does an eFoil lesson cost?

Each partner sets their own prices: on Lake Garda, in Sotogrande and Porto Heli lessons start from €199, in Barcelona the price is on request. In Berlin a lesson costs between €249 and €299; at Funkhaus we deduct the €299 from your invoice if you then buy an eFoil from us.

How does an eFoil lesson work?

A lesson always starts on land and ends with your first flight over the water. Your instructor stays close to you the whole time; at most of our locations they talk to you by radio while you ride.

1. Briefing

Before every lesson you sign a release of liability. Then you get to know all the components of the eFoil, how to set it up and take it down, and the safety rules for the water. A quick test shows whether you ride with your left (regular) or right foot (goofy) forward.

2. Dry practice

On a board on land you practise getting on, lying, kneeling and standing up, and where your feet go. Just as important: falling the right way. Jump off backwards or to the side in good time rather than trying to stay on the board until the last moment. Then you learn the remote and the speed levels.

3. Into the water

The water start needs practice too. You swim next to the board, watch out for the wing under water and climb on from the side. Slide forward until the nose of the board is still out of the water: that’s where the antenna for the remote sits.

4. Lying down

You start on the lowest level lying down and learn how the eFoil reacts to throttle. When accelerating you pull yourself forward, when braking you push yourself back so that the nose doesn’t dip.

5. On your knees

Once you have a feel for throttle and weight, you move onto your knees and ride a little faster.

6. Standing up

From your knees you stand up, feet in the positions from the dry practice. Now you are surfing – not flying yet.

7. Your first flight

With a little more speed the board lifts off, and you glide over the water on the foil.
