Foil Drive is a manufacturer of foil assist products. The Australian start-up is a pioneer in the development of these assist systems, which enable so-called hybrid foiling. Hybrid because it bridges the gap between eFoils and foils without motors.
The company began developing the Foil Drive Assist back in 2021. The second generation is now available in various versions, each differing in weight and range. Foil Drive is considered the market leader in this category.
As an authorized Foil Drive dealer, we at E-SURFER have two excellent pump foilers on our team who are experts in the field of foil assist. Of course, we also have a demo unit available in our shop.
Foil Drive does not turn your foilboard into an eFoil. Instead, it is designed to assist you with prone foiling (surfing in waves), pump foiling (foiling using muscle power), or wing foiling.
When surfing, it helps you catch the wave at the right moment or reach the next wave immediately after a successful ride.
When pump foiling, it enables a water start and carries you to the next boat wave 😉
When wing foiling, the Foil Drive helps you get off the ground even when the wind is too weak.
The Foil Drive motor can be attached to the mast at any position using different cable lengths. It is normally positioned approx. 20 cm from the board so that it does not interfere with foiling without the motor.
It also has a folding propeller to reduce drag in the water.
A foil assist is an electric motor that powers a foil without a motor. The aim is not to build an eFoil with it, but to provide assistance when prone or pump foiling.
The market leader Foil Drive has models ranging from EUR 4,000 to EUR 6,000. The difference lies mainly in the power and range.
A foil drive is a motor that can be screwed onto a foil board. It is powered by a lithium-ion battery. Acceleration is controlled by a remote control held in the hand.
An eFoil is constantly powered by a motor. A foil drive is only used to support a foilboard without a motor.
The range is between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on the model.
The Foil Assist helps you get started foiling even when there is not enough wind.
