Compare Fliteboards - the Fliteboard model overview 2025

Compare Fliteboards with the E-SURFER Fliteboard model overview. From Series 1 to 2, 2.2 to Series 5 and all associated model variants.

Compare Fliteboards - Generations

As the title suggests, our article “Compare Fliteboards” only refers to Fliteboard models. To compare eFoils across brands, we recommend our article: eFoil buying guide.

Let's start our Fliteboard model overview with the individual generations. This overview is suitable for those interested in used eFoils. Here you can recognize the differences and can then also distinguish the generation based on the features. Compare Fliteboards by model year:

Series 1 (2018-2020)

It all started with the Series 1, which was only launched in small quantities in Australia in summer 2018. In July 2018, I was able to test the Fliteboard for the first time in Spain together with CEO David Trewern. First the Air model and then the Standard model. We then got our own board in January 2019. It was the first Fliteboard in Germany and was the exhibit at boot 2019. A standard Flite board in ash.

Fliteboard Series 1

You can immediately recognize the Series 1 Fliteboards by the small hollow at the top of the deck pad. Good to see in the photo above. Here, the first generation of Fliteboards had to be unlocked by placing the remote control on the board. Today, this is done via a button combination on the remote control.
You can also recognize the Series 1 by the 3 cables in the battery compartment (since Series 2 there were only 2). Incidentally, the Series 1 boards are not compatible with the Series 2 to 5. Only the batteries work for all models.

I made this video for the E-SURFER YouTube channel at boot 2019. You can also see the board in ash, which we reserved straight away.

Series 1 Fliteboard model overview

The Series 1 was available in three versions:

  • Fliteboard Air (inflatable version)
  • Fliteboard (all-round model)
  • Fliteboard Pro (sportier version)

The Fliteboard Air was designed for schools and rental. The inflatable cover was robust and the large volume made it a safe platform for beginners.

Series 2 (2021)

In 2021, the Series 2 was launched. In addition to the aforementioned easier deactivation of the safety lock, the data cable between the battery and the controller was also replaced by Bluetooth. The Fliteboards of the Series 2 thus had only two cables in the battery compartment.

2.0 innovations:

  • Override security lock with key combination
  • Data cable eliminated
  • New Ultra model
  • Optional footstraps
  • New Flow wings (High Aspect Wings)
  • True Glide propellers

We made the following video about the Series 2 for you in Cannes in 2021:

In addition to the Fliteboard Air, the standard and the Pro model, the smallest eFoil on the market - the Fliteboard Ultra - was also introduced with the Series 2. An aggressive board for true experts.

Series 2 Fliteboard model overview

The Series 2.2 was available in four versions:

  • Fliteboard Air (inflatable version)
  • Fliteboard (all-rounder model)
  • Fliteboard Pro (sportier version)
  • Fliteboard Ultra (for experts)

Series 2.2 (2022)

In 2022, there were a few minor updates with the Series 2.2. These included a quieter motor and the new Titanium Explore battery. The outer plates of the battery were now no longer made of aluminum, but of more stable titanium. But something had also changed inside the LI battery. Now the larger 21700 cells were installed.

However, the performance increase of the Fliteboard battery was used in favor of longevity and not for a longer range. The Fliteboard smartphone app was also updated in the 2.2 series. It was now possible to measure the length of waves surfed.

The remote control trigger was also revised. It could now be pulled further, making speed control more comfortable.

The design of the board also got a facelift. A new recessed deck pad and silicone hand straps. The older design was still sold for a while as the “Carbon Classic”. Here the deck pad was simply glued on and the hand straps were covered with fabric.

2.2 New features:

  • Quieter motor
  • Titanium battery
  • More sensitive trigger
  • Wave detection
  • New deck pad
  • Silicone hand straps

Series 2.2 Fliteboard model overview

The Series 2.2 was available in four versions:

  • Fliteboard Air (inflatable version)
  • Fliteboard (all-rounder model)
  • Fliteboard Pro (sportier version)
  • Fliteboard Ultra (for experts)

Series 3 (2023)

In 2023, the Series 3 was released. And now comparing Fliteboards became complicated. The number of different configurations had increased exorbitantly.

The main innovation of the Series 3 was the optional jet drive. After other manufacturers, in particular Aerofoils, had launched jet foils with the Audi e-tron foil 2022, Flite also followed this trend. The jet drive is safer than an open propeller.

Andreas (E-SURFER) on the Fliteboard Pro Series 3

With the three models Carbon, Carbon Classic and Fiberglass and the four board sizes Air, Standard, Pro and Ultra, each of which can be configured with different masts, drives, batteries and wings, which were then also available in different colors, there were hundreds of combinations. That can be overwhelming and it took me weeks to filter out the most useful combinations.

With the Series 3, three battery sizes are now also offered. In addition to the standard Explore battery and the lighter Sport battery, there is now also a very light Nano battery for riding waves.

In addition, the Ultra L was introduced. An even lighter version of the Ultra model. The Ultra L was only available in gold with a gold mast.

3.0 innovations:

  • Optional jet drive
  • Nano battery
  • Fiberglass boards
  • Ultra L board

Series 3 Fliteboard model overview

The Series 3 was available in five versions:

  • Fliteboard Air (inflatable version)
  • Fliteboard (all-rounder model)
  • Fliteboard Pro (sportier version)
  • Fliteboard Ultra (for experts)
  • Fliteboard Ultra L (the lightest eFoil - for experts)

Series 4 (2024)

With the Series 4, Fliteboard has launched even more variants on the market and so the topic of “comparing Fliteboards” has gradually become a doctoral thesis.

While in 2024 not much or nothing at all has changed in terms of technology, such as the drive, battery or remote control, Fliteboard focused even more on product diversity. In addition to new colors, a soft top version was now also available for the fiberglass boards. These fiberglass boards have foam glued to the top and sides, which protects the board from impacts.

The Fliteboard Air was replaced by the Flite Air. An inflatable low-budget version for less than €9,000. The Flite Air has a smaller battery compartment and therefore cannot accommodate a large Explore battery.

Flitescooter testen
Flitescooter - eFoil with handlebar

The Flitescooter was already announced at the end of 2023 – but then it really only became available in 2024 – a giant eFoil with handlebars.

The designer model Marc Newson also came onto the market in 2024. With a price tag of over €20,000, it's an expensive pleasure. Clearly a beautiful board with a color remote control and a monoblock drive. Whether the price is justified is up to each individual to decide.

And there was also a new Ultra Board in 2024. The Ultra L2 has been optimized again and uses the drive of the Marc Newson Board.

4.0 Innovations:

  • Soft Top Board
  • Flite Air
  • Flitescooter
  • Marc Newson Board
  • Ultra L2 Board

Series 4 Fliteboard model overview

The Series 4 was available in eight versions:

  • Flite Air (inflatable version)
  • Fliteboard (all-rounder model)
  • Fliteboard Pro (sportier version)
  • Fliteboard Ultra (for experts)
  • Fliteboard Ultra L (the lightest eFoil - for experts)
  • Fliteboard Ultra L2 (new shape - for experts)
  • Flitescooter (eFoil with handlebar)
  • Marc Newson (designer model)

Series 5 (2025)

This part is still secret and will follow shortly.

Compare Fliteboards - Current Models

Okay, these were the different generations of Fliteboards. Certainly helpful for the used market of eFoils. Now it's time to compare the current Fliteboards. We'll go through the models board by board.

Flite Air

Not to be confused with the “Fliteboard Air”, the “Flite Air” was launched in 2024. It is Fliteboard's low-budget board in the “under €9,000” price range. Unlike the “Fliteboard Air”, the SUP body is glued to the battery box and cannot be separated.

The battery compartment is smaller than in other Fliteboard models and therefore only holds the Nano or Sport battery. The Explore battery does not fit.

All other components (battery, remote control, drive, etc.) are identical to those of other Fliteboards.

Flite Air models:

  • 80 liters
  • 110 liters

Fliteboard Air

The Fliteboard Air was the original inflatable version of the Fliteboards. It has been around since Series 1 and is recommended for schools and rentals. It could also be used as a space-saving version of the Fliteboards. In 2024, the Fliteboard Air was replaced by the Flite Air.

Flitescooter

In 2024, the Flitescooter was launched. An eFoil with handlebars that is very easy to control. We made the following video about it:

The Flitescooter is very suitable for rental because (unlike the eFoil) it can be handed over without training. The volume is so large that you can stand on it without riding.

The handlebar prevents you from coming into contact with the wings in the event of a crash. And the mast has been shortened to make it easier to absorb falls.

Fliteboard

The standard board is simply called the Fliteboard. Sometimes you also hear the name “Fliteboard Standard” or “Fliteboard 100” because it has a volume of 99 liters.

All boards are 172 cm long and 72 cm wide, but the weight of the variants (fiberglass and carbon) is different. However, Fliteboard does not provide exact details.

This all-rounder eFoil is the flagship model of the Fliteboards. It is suitable for both beginners and advanced eFoilers and is the most popular variant among Fliteboards.

Originally, all models were made of carbon. A very high-quality material that is both light and robust. Fiberglass boards have also been available since the Series 3. Just like lift foils, a cheaper material was used here to reduce the price. Unlike carbon fiber, fiberglass is heavier and not quite as strong.

Since 2024, there has also been a soft top version of the fiberglass boards. These fiberglass boards are covered with a foam on the top and sides that protects the board from impacts. Otherwise, it has the same features as the other fiberglass Fliteboards.

Fliteboard models:

  • Carbon
  • Fiberglass
  • Soft Top

Fliteboard Pro

With 67 liters, the Fliteboard Pro is smaller and more agile than the Fliteboard. The smaller the board, the more difficult the start. However, smaller boards are more maneuverable due to less inertia. But since the board is no longer in the water during flight, the difference to the Fliteboard is not quite as big as some might think. When taking off, it is 80 percent the board, and when flying, 80 percent the wing that determines the handling.

Again, the two variants (fiberglass and carbon) are the same size at 152 cm long and 62 cm wide. However, only the black carbon Pro has the option of attaching foot straps.

Fliteboard Pro models:

  • Carbon
  • Fiberglass
  • Soft Top

Fliteboard Ultra

The Fliteboard Ultra was introduced with the Series 2. At just 57 liters, it was the smallest board in the Fliteboard range. It measures 131 cm in length and 58 cm in width.

The Ultra model offers the option of attaching optional footstraps. A template for drilling under the deck pad is included so you can punch the rubber at these points and screw on the footstraps.

Fliteboard Ultra L

The Fliteboard Ultra L came in 2023 with the Series 3. Although the dimensions and volume are the same as the Ultra, in order to save another 1 kg in weight, the L variant does not have hand loops or threads for footstraps. So the Ultra L does not support footstraps or hand loops.

The Ultra L model comes with an 80 cm aluminum mast. Furthermore, the board is only available in gold with a gold mast.

Fliteboard Ultra L2

In 2024, the Ultra L2 came with a new shape and even less volume. Now the lightest board of all Fliteboards. The weight with the Nano battery is 18 kg.

It has only 49 liters volume at a length of 132 cm. This is truly small and designed for true experts only.

Marc Newson

Not enough Fliteboards? We have one more 😉

In collaboration with designer Marc Newson, three designer models have been released. The boards in dark carbon, a special deck pad and a monobloc carbon mast have a brand new battery compartment lock and a color remote control.

We recorded the following video about the boards:

There are three versions:

  • MN86 - 162 cm board with 86 liter volume and Dual Drive motor (Jet & TrueGlide)
  • MN60 - 137 cm board with 60 liter volume and Dual Drive motor (Jet & TrueGlide)
  • MN60Wave - 137 cm board with 60 liter volume and a motor with a smaller diameter and folding propeller

All Marc Newson masts are 82 cm long and made of carbon. However, the MN60Wave has a smaller diameter motor that only has 3 kW instead of 4 kW of power. Paired with the folding propeller, this is specially designed for riding waves, as the smaller diameter reduces water resistance.

These Marc Newson models are the most expensive Fliteboards. Some of them are priced at over €22,000. In addition, the number of boards is said to be limited to 999.

Why are there so many Fliteboard models?

There really are a lot of different Fliteboards. But why? I think this is Fliteboard's strategy against its competitors. They have everything in their portfolio that any other manufacturer offers and more.
The problem with so many Fliteboards is that neither Fliteboard nor the dealers can handle this mass. This repeatedly leads to long delivery times. The remote control also seems to have problems with so many model variants.

I think that in the long term you have to part with this strategy. Fliteboard was bought by Brunswick Corporation at the end of 2023. The new owner will take a close look at this.
Until then, the question for me (and all other dealers) every year is which products to order in spring. But no matter what you order, the next customer always wants something different 😉
But of course, over the years, we have gained experience and focus on the models that are most in demand.

You can find our models at Fliteboard.
