The eFoil Doctor is our new AI assistant for everyone who already rides an eFoil: free, around the clock, no login. Why we built it, what it can do — and what it deliberately does not.

The eFoil Doctor is a free AI assistant from E-SURFER that answers eFoil owners' questions about error codes, battery, propulsion, water ingress and maintenance around the clock — no login, no sign-up. It draws on 204 knowledge blocks we compiled ourselves for Aerofoils, Fliteboard, Lift Foils, SiFly and Waydoo, from our hands-on practice since 2017.
eFoil Doctor — why did we build it?
We built the eFoil Doctor because the same questions have kept coming back since 2017 — and because they almost always come up when nobody is in the office.
Anyone who rides an eFoil knows the scene: Sunday evening, half past eight, you are standing at the lake. The board is assembled, the battery is full, the remote shows a warning — and nothing happens. Our support reads your email on Monday. By then the evening is gone, the drive was for nothing and your mood is in the basement. Yet in the vast majority of cases the cause is a small thing that takes two minutes to explain.
The knowledge was there — just in the wrong place. It sat in our heads, in eight years of support emails, in forum threads, in WhatsApp chats and in manufacturer manuals spanning several model generations. If you wanted the right answer, you had to reach us. That is not a system that scales.
We have been collecting that experience since 2017: the world's first eFoil blog, our own YouTube channel, a test centre in Berlin, several eFoil schools and a seat on the board of the Global Foil Board Sports Association. That reads like a CV — in practice it mainly means we have seen the same problems very often.
So we started writing this knowledge down. Not as yet another PDF collection, but in individual, clearly separated blocks: one problem, one cause, the steps to a solution, and the point where you should stop. 204 of them exist today. The eFoil Doctor draws on these blocks and nothing else.
According to E-SURFER, the value is not in the AI but in the groundwork: an assistant is only ever as good as the knowledge behind it. Eight years of practice cannot be short-cut — the technology just finally makes them available around the clock.
Which questions does the eFoil Doctor actually answer?
The eFoil Doctor answers everything that happens after the purchase: warnings and error codes, battery and charging, propulsion, water ingress, care, maintenance, assembly and operation. Three real cases from our support show what that looks like.
„My Aerofoils board won't unlock.“ This is almost always the speed limiter. It caps the top speed and needs a GPS signal from the remote to do so — without a GPS fix the board simply does not start. That is not a fault, it is intended behaviour. The fix: either switch the limiter off, or turn the remote on before the board so it can find GPS in peace. In our experience this is by far the most common support case with Aerofoils, and one that need not send anyone to a workshop.
„My remote won't charge.“ A classic, and usually harmless: clean the charging contacts. Both on the charging plug and — this matters most — in the charging cradle on the remote itself. Those contacts inevitably come into contact with water and corrode over time. A thin layer of corrosion is enough to stop the charging current.
„My mast is loose.“ The mast bolts need retightening, to 10 Nm — one with a 5 mm hex key, the other with 4 mm. Important: use a torque wrench. Doing it by feel will not work. On reassembly, 3 Nm is not a guideline but an upper limit — the cover and controller sit in plastic, and overtightening strips the thread.
You will not find these answers in any manual. They exist because we have had these cases ourselves, hundreds of times. If the drive system itself interests you, we explain how an eFoil works technically in a separate article.

Which eFoil brands does the eFoil Doctor know?
The eFoil Doctor knows five brands in detail: Aerofoils, Fliteboard, Lift Foils, SiFly and Waydoo — plus cross-brand eFoil questions. This is how the 204 knowledge blocks are distributed:
- Aerofoils — 56 blocks
- Fliteboard — 39 blocks
- Lift Foils — 35 blocks
- Waydoo — 31 blocks
- SiFly — 24 blocks
- Cross-brand — 19 blocks
190 of them are also available as an open FAQ on the eFoil Doctor's brand pages, to read without chatting. The rest live in the chat only — they are answers that need a specific follow-up question to be useful.
There is a simple reason why we cover exactly these five brands: we test them ourselves, sell them or look after their accessories in service. Where we have no first-hand practice, we have no knowledge — and then we do not write any down.
Brands that no longer exist are a special case. By our market observation, several eFoil manufacturers have disappeared over the years, among them Waveshark, Takuma, Scubajet, Getfoil and MSLR. Waveshark, as far as we can tell, trades as Jetwave today. The eFoil Doctor puts that in context instead of pretending there is still a manufacturer's support line. We do not keep this list to talk brands down, but because the question comes up constantly: the eFoil market is a niche — companies come and go, and the customer is left with a board nobody supplies parts for.
What does the eFoil Doctor do when it doesn't know something?
It tells you. That mattered most to us when building it: the eFoil Doctor does not search half the internet, only our own blocks. If it finds nothing that fits, it says so openly and does not guess.
Ask about a brand we have no reliable knowledge of and you will not get a plausible-sounding invention, but an honest no — and a pointer to our eFoil forum. As the relevant block puts it: „We cannot give technical information about other brands without guessing — and guessing does not help you with a device that has a battery and a propeller.“
The forum is not a consolation prize here, it is often the better address. It is the largest German-language eFoil community, and many niche brands have their own threads there — frequently the only place where anyone has experience with your exact model.
E-SURFER founder Andreas Lakeberg explains: „An assistant that answers something to every question is more dangerous than none at all. With a device that has a lithium battery and a propeller under the board, nobody may guess — not even a machine. So we taught it to say ‚I don't know'.“
What does the eFoil Doctor deliberately not do?
The eFoil Doctor is self-help for owners — it does not advise on purchases, does no jetboard support and replaces no workshop. These limits are deliberate, not gaps.
No buying advice. It is a support centre for people who already own their eFoil. Which board suits you, which drive, which battery size — on that it deliberately says nothing. That is a question that needs advice, not a chat. For that we have our eFoil comparison, the shop and a test centre in Berlin where you ride the boards yourself before you decide.
No jetboard support. It is called the eFoil Doctor, and that is where it stays. For jetboards — boards without a foil wing — we offer no technical support here.
A clear safety limit. With the battery, the charger, water ingress and the electronics, self-help ends. A battery that has taken on water or shows visible damage does not belong on the charger but in expert hands. In such cases the eFoil Doctor deliberately answers conservatively: stop using it, safety first. It also warns you when work on the drive could affect your warranty — rather than letting you walk into it.
And it is not a repair desk. When self-help is not enough, the next step depends on where you bought. If you are an E-SURFER customer, simply come to us directly — we look after our customers. If you bought elsewhere, your dealer or the manufacturer's support is the right address: they have your purchase records, can handle warranty claims and can get the right spare parts. If your brand is one nobody supports any more, the forum remains.

eFoil Doctor — how to try it out
You open doctor.e-surfer.com, type in your question and get an answer. No login, no sign-up, no email address, no cost — the chat sits open on the home page.
Word your question the way you would ask a person. „My board makes strange noises when accelerating“ works better than a single keyword, because it lets the assistant search the right block more precisely. Name your brand while you are at it — that narrows the answer considerably. It also understands follow-ups, so you do not have to pack everything into one sentence.
If you would rather read than chat: every brand has an open FAQ page with all questions and answers to scroll through. Note that part of the English version is not translated yet and still appears in German. We are working on it.
If you are only just getting into the sport and do not own a board yet, the eFoil Doctor is the wrong place — better to start with the basics.
