Aerofoils: jet-powered eFoils, formerly Audi e-tron foil

Aerofoils GmbH, based in Weißdorf in Bavaria, builds eFoils with a jet drive. The company started as a spin-off of Audi AG and became known under the name Audi e-tron foil. An eFoil is a surfboard that rises above the water. The first model came onto the market in 2022 and was the world's first eFoil with a jet drive.

The jet propulsion of the Aerofoils surfboard not only makes eFoiling safer, but the eFoil also reacts more gently when accelerating or decelerating than eFoils with propellers.

The great design makes it a real eye-catcher and it impresses with great features such as an 80 cm long carbon mast and a feature-rich remote control with a large color display.

All Aerofoils models with prices

Aerofoils builds five eFoil models between 11,799 and 16,499 euros. Every model comes with a choice of two batteries: Light for around 60 minutes of riding time, Endurance for up to 120 minutes and about 40 km of range. The surcharge for the Endurance battery with fast charger is 1,500 euros on every model. VAT included, subject to change.

Aerofoils Adventure — from 14,269 € · 103 l · up to 50 km/h. The all-rounder and the largest board in the series: plenty of volume forgives mistakes on take-off. Originally the Audi e-tron foil Adventure.

Aerofoils Performance — from 14,269 € · 83 l · up to 55 km/h. Smaller board, noticeably more speed, tighter turns. The right choice once you ride confidently. Formerly the Audi e-tron foil Performance.

Aerofoils Competition — from 14,999 € · 73 l · up to 55 km/h. The smallest and sportiest board in the series, built for maximum agility. In our shop you will still find it under its previous name, Audi e-tron foil Competition.

AirFly by Aerofoils — from 11,799 € · 150 l · up to 55 km/h. The inflatable eFoil: fits in your trunk, the most affordable way into the series and very forgiving thanks to its volume.

HyperFly by Aerofoils — from 14,499 € · 230 l · up to 50 km/h. The eFoil with a handlebar and by far the most volume. That makes it the easiest one to ride.

We have all models in stock and you can also test them. You will find them in our eFoil overview as well.

From Audi e-tron foil to Aerofoils

Since 2026 the models are no longer called Audi e-tron foil, but Aerofoils. The change is happening step by step: the Audi e-tron foil Adventure became the Aerofoils Adventure, the Performance became the Aerofoils Performance. Technically nothing changes — it is the same board, from the same manufacturer, out of the same factory.

So if you are searching for an Audi eFoil, you are in the right place. Only the Competition still carries its old name in our shop.

Which Aerofoils eFoil suits you?

The decision comes down mainly to the volume of the board. The more litres, the calmer it sits in the water and the easier the take-off — the fewer litres, the sportier it rides.

If you are starting out, take the HyperFly with 230 l or the inflatable AirFly with 150 l. If you ride regularly and want all-round qualities, the Adventure with 103 l is your board. The Performance with 83 l and the Competition with 73 l assume that you already handle the take-off safely.

If you are unsure, give us a call. We ride every model ourselves and advise you free of charge.

AirFly and HyperFly: the two special models

The AirFly is the inflatable eFoil by Aerofoils. The board is pumped up like a SUP, rolls up small enough for your trunk and at 11,799 euros it is the most affordable way into the series. For travelling or a small car it is the most practical solution.

The HyperFly is an eFoil with a handlebar. You do not stand freely on the board but hold on to a grip — that takes much of the difficulty out of your first attempts. With 230 l of volume it also carries heavier riders safely.

Our experience with Aerofoils since 2018

Not only were we able to secure the first models in 2022, but we also visited the Aerofoils factory to take a closer look at the production of the eFoils. The following video was created for the E-SURFER Youtube channel:

E-SURFER has a long history with the Aerofoils founders. We saw the first prototype in Las Vegas in 2018.

The founders Christian Rößler and Franz Hofmann have been working on an electric hydrofoil since 2017. While Christian has a technical background in aerodynamics, Franz, a kitesurfer, has been an engineer at Audi AG since 2016, working on alternative drive systems.

In 2019, Franz and Christian visited us for the first time in Berlin with a prototype. The following photo was taken.

FAQ
ANSWER TO
YOUR QUESTIONS

What does an Aerofoils eFoil cost?

The Adventure and Performance models are priced at EUR 15,769 incl. 19% VAT. The Competition model is priced at EUR 16,499. Subject to change without notice.

Is the Aerofoils surfboard really from Audi?

The Aerofoils eFoil is not manufactured by Audi AG. However, it was designed by an Audi engineer who then motivated the marketing team to market it. The Audi e-tron foil is manufactured by Aerofoils GmbH from Bavaria. Audi is a partner and the managing director is still an employee of the group.

Is the Aerofoils eFoil legal?

Yes. There's no eFoil-specific national law in the UK, and recreational eFoils need no national registration or licence — so your Aerofoils eFoil is legal to own and ride. What matters is local: coastal byelaws and harbour authorities regulate personal watercraft, while inland waters such as the Canal & River Trust (licence) or the River Thames (registration) set their own rules. Full overview here: eFoils in the UK: rules, licences & where to ride.

Do you need a licence for the Aerofoils eFoil?

No. The UK has no national licence requirement for recreational eFoils — the rules are local and operator-based. Harbour authorities and byelaws govern the coast; some inland operators require a licence (Canal & River Trust) or registration (River Thames), and in Scotland motorboats need a Scottish Navigation Licence. Your Aerofoils eFoil needs no national licence.

What is the Aerofoils surfboard all about?

The Aerofoils surfboard is a so-called eFoil. An eFoil floats - thanks to a mast under the surfboard to which a wing and motor is attached - about 80 cm above the water. The official name of the Aerefoils surfboard is Audi e-tron foil by Aerofoils.

How fast is the Audi eFoil?

The Audi e-tron foil reaches speeds of up to 50 km/h. The normal cruising speed is 25 km/h.

Where can I buy the Aerofoils E-Foil?

You can buy the boards in our shop in Berlin or in our online eFoil shop.

How long does the Audi eFoil battery last?

Between 60 and 120 minutes depending on battery size. The rider's weight and speed also affect the range.

Do I need insurance for the Aerofoils eFoil?

In most countries liability insurance is not mandatory for private eFoil use — Spain and Italy are the exceptions, where it is required. We strongly recommend cover everywhere: without it you are personally liable for damage to others. Some marinas and rental operators also ask for a policy before you launch.
