A high-quality eFoil board costs between €12,000 and €20,000 in 2026. The price depends on the brand, battery size, mast length and equipment. With us, premium boards start at €14,269. Cheaper offers online look tempting, but they usually hide surcharges for configuration, shipping and tax.
The most important thing to know about eFoil prices: the list price is rarely the price you pay. Here is an example from our own shop. The Aerofoils Performance eFoil is listed at €14,269. That is the base configuration. With the setup we actually recommend – large battery and large charger – you are at €15,769. We show both figures because otherwise you would get a surprise at checkout. With other sellers, that is exactly what happens.
We are often asked whether eFoil prices will come down. In our experience, they won't. In 2018 a premium eFoil cost around €13,000; today some cost €19,000. Worldwide production of roughly 15,000 eFoils a year is now spread across more manufacturers, not fewer.
eFoils are expensive because every board contains four high-end components: a carbon construction, a water-cooled electric motor, an automotive-grade lithium-ion battery and a remote that has to work underwater. With manufacturers from the USA or Australia, import costs and import taxes come on top – not so with Aerofoils, a German manufacturer. Saving money here almost always means saving on safety and service.
Material. Since 2022, even premium manufacturers have offered fibreglass versions so they can advertise a lower entry price. The top models stay with carbon fibre, because the material is lighter and tougher. If you choose carbon, the price goes up by around €2,000. Same with the mast: aluminium is cheaper, carbon fibre costs about €500 more and rides noticeably smoother.
Battery. The proven size is 13 to 14 kilograms and 2.1 to 2.2 kWh – the best balance of weight and ride time. Smaller batteries exist for two very different reasons: budget manufacturers use them to save money, premium manufacturers use them to save weight for riding waves. For everyone else: always take the large battery.
Charger. Some standard chargers need nine hours for a full charge. That is why we sell our boards almost exclusively with a large battery and a fast charger – anything else makes no sense in everyday use.
Drive and mast. Jet drives are catching on because they are safer – and many manufacturers charge extra for them. In the top class you ride an 80-centimetre carbon mast. The standard configuration often comes with a shorter aluminium mast.
Many customers ask us why Aerofoils – formerly known as Audi e-tron foil – and Lift Foils are more expensive than Fliteboard. At first glance it looks that way. Fliteboard advertises a low entry price. But that price gets you the smallest battery, an aluminium mast and a basic remote with a black-and-white display – a setup we would hardly recommend to anyone.
A fair comparison only works with the same equipment. For us that means: a long carbon mast, a large battery with up to two hours of ride time, a fast charger, a carbon board and a high-quality remote with a colour display and lots of useful features. Aerofoils and Lift Foils deliver that at a similar price. Equip a Fliteboard the same way and you end up paying more – plus shipping. You can check this yourself with the configurator on the Fliteboard website.
We are also open about why we no longer carry Fliteboard: our experience with the failure rate and the support has been very poor in recent years. For Fliteboard owners we now only stock third-party accessories – for example tuning propellers and service kits.
Because of its size and the battery, an eFoil has to be shipped as bulky goods and as dangerous goods. Within Europe, shipping realistically costs between €180 and €250. Deliveries to islands cost more because sea freight documents for dangerous goods are required. Flat fees of several hundred euros are not justified.
The E-SURFER team holds all transport certifications for air freight, sea freight and road, and prepares the documents for its customers itself.
All prices in our shop include 19 percent German VAT, because we are a German retailer. For deliveries to other EU countries, the VAT rate of the destination country applies – the price is adjusted accordingly when you order. Businesses with a valid VAT ID can be supplied within the EU without VAT. Watch how other sellers handle this – some only show the tax at checkout, and the product suddenly costs around a fifth more. When importing directly from overseas, customs duties and handling fees come on top, and you often only find out about them once the shipment is held at customs.
The key measure is the board's volume in litres, compared with the weight of the heaviest rider. Rule of thumb: the board should have at most 10 litres less volume than the rider weighs in kilograms. Include your wetsuit, vest and helmet.
If a group of riders with different weights shares the board, go by the heaviest rider. Then everyone else can ride too. When taking off, 80 percent comes down to the board; when flying, 80 percent comes down to the wing – which is why a slightly larger board is not boring for lighter riders.
The best-selling boards are around 100 litres. But it shouldn't be too big: very large boards need less motor power to take off, which is why budget sellers rely on them. Anyone who buys a board like that usually wants a real eFoil the following season.
The jet drive is the safer choice, because the impeller is fully enclosed – contact with the propeller is simply not possible. Propeller accidents are rare and almost always happen on land or after poor instruction. Even so: nobody wants to get close to a spinning propeller.
The two ride very differently. A propeller produces more thrust, the speed stays constant as you lift off, and you don't need to adjust. A jet foil accelerates after lift-off, because much less power is needed in flight. Whether you like that surge is a matter of taste – which is why you can test ride both versions with us.
Take the large battery. The small one only makes sense for very good riders on very small boards who want to ride waves and save weight for that. A standard eFoil battery from the premium manufacturers weighs around 13 kilograms. Anything lighter costs you ride time, not just weight.
An eFoil must not be live the moment it is switched on. With Aerofoils and the other premium manufacturers, the board is locked and has to be unlocked with a button combination on the remote. Make sure your board does this. Some boards also detect their position and only let the propeller spin when the board is lying level.
We advise against a leash with a magnetic kill switch on an eFoil. Unlike a jetboard, an eFoil does not keep going without a rider – it drops, and the motors shut off as soon as the remote falls into the water. A leash is not just a nuisance, it can get caught in the mast or wing. Only secure the board in currents or strong wind – and then with a fixed leash, not a magnetic one.
Cheap eFoils exist – some for a third of the price. We have ridden most of them ourselves and still haven't added any of these manufacturers to our range. The main reason isn't the board, it's the support. If something breaks, you need a contact in Europe, spare parts and someone who can get the board working again.
Broken masts and wings, faulty batteries and remotes were long the norm in this price class. Much of that has improved. The support problem has stayed, and the list of sellers that have gone bust keeps growing. On top of that, the premium manufacturers now also offer cheaper entry-level models – with European service behind them.
We carry Waydoo and SiFly as accessory brands, but we don't recommend them as your first board. In the E-SURFER shop we only sell what we would buy ourselves.
Aerofoils comes first for us, in two equally good versions. The Aerofoils Adventure (formerly Audi e-tron foil Adventure) is the larger, calmer board for most riders. The Aerofoils Performance is the sportier one. Both start at €14,269 – which one suits you depends on your weight and your local waters, not the price. The Aerofoils Competition (formerly Audi e-tron foil Competition), from €14,999, is the version for very sporty riders.
Lift Foils is the choice for riders with watersports experience, above all because of its wing technology in waves: the LIFT5, the LIFTX and, as the entry model, the LIFT5 F.
Awake Boards from Sweden stands for high build quality. The Awake VINGA impresses with strong battery performance and clean finish, and sits at the upper end of the price range.
For yacht charter and rental we recommend the HyperFly eFoil Scooter from €14,499 – or €15,999 with the large battery and fast charger, the way we recommend it. Its principle is so simple it fits in one sentence: if you can stand on it, you can ride it. For guests with no prior experience, that is what makes the difference.
The most common and most expensive mistake when buying an eFoil is to buy a forgiving beginner board first and the board you actually wanted a year later. That way you pay twice. Buy the carbon board that suits you straight away, and fit the Aeroloop for €599 while you learn.
In the first few hours, the Aeroloop gives the board extra volume and stability. Once you are standing confidently, you take it off and ride your real board. That is the best of both worlds and saves you from a complete bad buy.
Yes. Before you spend €14,000 to €20,000, you should have ridden one. We offer test rides at various test centers in Germany and across Europe, including our showroom in Berlin. You ride different boards one after another and find out for yourself which volume and which drive suit you – no table can replace that.
Our eFoil course costs €249 to €299 and is credited against the purchase price. For most customers this is the most sensible first step: ride first, then decide, then buy.

No national licence is required to ride an eFoil in the UK — it comes down to local and operator rules. Harbour authorities and byelaws govern the coast; the Canal & River Trust requires a licence for all boats, the River Thames requires registration, and Scotland requires a Scottish Navigation Licence for motorboats. There's no national minimum age either — that's set locally.
In the UK you can ride an eFoil on many waters, because there's no eFoil-specific national ban — but the rules are local. Coastal use is governed by harbour authorities and byelaws; inland you usually need an operator licence (Canal & River Trust) or registration (River Thames), and Scotland has its own Scottish Navigation Licence.
